Throughout WNIN’s strategic planning process and needs assessments, a continuing theme emerged. Many organizations, particularly small non-profits, are unable to get their mission and messages understood in the crowded media marketplace. With the assistance of the Alcoa Foundation, WNIN has developed a three-year service project to improve the mission, awareness and sustainability of selected non-profit partners that fit both WNIN and Alcoa’s strategic missions. This initiative will allow various non-profits access and utilize WNIN’s skills, technology and media expertise, and in the process become more successful at marketing their programs and missions.

Wessleman’s Nature Society (WNS) is many things to many people. Whether it’s the Woods Nature Preserve, the Howell Wetlands or Canoe Evansville, WNS is about connecting our community to its natural beauty and wonder and teaching us ways in which to be good stewards of those resources. However, with so much going on, WNS needed to make the community more aware of all they had to offer.
Through the Community Moments Initiative, WNS and WNIN were able to create three 30-second promo spots highlighting the educational value, the serenity and the wonder of the WNS family of sites and opportunities. In addition, WNIN used snippets of these spots to create WNIN station IDs further helping to reinforce the various faces of such a wonderful local resource.
Through the Community Moments Initiative, Keep Evansville Beautiful (KEB) has created a five-minute educational video that complements educational outreach and the book “Retrieving with EVIE.” Since the release of the book, EVIE and her pals have been busy visiting area schools and spreading the message that picking up three items of trash a day will help improve our community and make it the best place to live in America – Three A Day – The EVIE Way!
Given that EVIE is one dog and cannot be everywhere, KEB has had a difficult time expanding their school-based outreach. To help alleviate this, KEB and WNIN created a five-minute video of EVIE’s school presentation using local children, EVIE and her dad. The entire video was voiced by EVIE (voice of Kiara Bailey) and was a mixture of live action and illustrations from the book. This video will be taken into the surrounding counties so that Keep Evansville Beautiful can expand their message of a clean and prosperous community – the EVIE way!
