Attorney General Candidate Interviews Print E-mail

Next month Indiana Republicans and Democrats will hold their state conventions. Among the list of nominations to be decided is the race for Attorney General. The post is being vacated by current Attorney General Steve Carter. To date, three candidates, two Republicans and one Democrat, have put their names in the race. Response to Myanmar Devastation Slow Print E-mail

Today marked the first of three days of official mourning for the victims of the Myanmar cyclone. Also called Burma, the country’s isolated military junta has slowly begun accepting some aid from the outside world—including a team from an Evansville church. WNIN also spoke with the U.S. Ambassador to Thailand, who remains frustrated with the slow pace.

Southwest Indiana Encouraged to Pursue Renewable Energy Print E-mail

The state’s largest environmental organization is encouraging a closer look at renewable energy in a part of the state that relies heavily on coal. The Indianapolis-based Hoosier Environmental Council plans to use part of a grant from the McKinney Family Foundation to help southwestern Indiana communities explore their bio-fuel potential.

The soft economy has caused a downturn in new home construction, but in one Evansville neighborhood, business is booming. Last year, Habitat for Humanity built 27 houses at the New Haven neighborhood, and this year, another 23 are being built. WNIN’s Micah Schweizer has an update on the neighborhood that’s now home for many victims of the November 2005 tornado that caused widespread damage in Evansville.

Veterans React to Expanding Purple Heart Eligibility Print E-mail

Post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries are hallmarks of the Iraq War. Earlier this month, Defense Secretary Robert Gates cautiously offered support for offering one of the military’s top honors—the Purple Heart—to veterans who suffer psychological wounds, not just physical ones.
