WNIN-FM News Team Wins Three Awards
The WNIN-FM news team won three awards in broadcast journalism contests for 2009.
Steve Burger is a regional winner and national finalist for the Edward R.Murrow award, sponsored by the Radio and Television News Director's Association, the nation's premiere broadcast journalism organization.
Steve's entry, in the feature category for smaller market radio stations, is a direct result of WNIN's community engagement efforts. Based on community input that businesses are being told to "be creative" to make it through the recession, Steve talked with various local experts, musicians, artists and production workers to find out how they use the creative process in their work.
National winners of the Edward R. Murrow awards will be announced in mid-June.
In the 2009 Indiana Associated Press broadcast news contest, WNIN's Micah Schweizer won second place in the general news reporting category for his story about controversy in Vanderburgh County over early voting in the 2008 election. Steve Burger received an honorable mention in the enterprise category for his story of why Jasper has a city arts department.
